從９１１以來，到攻打伊拉克，就一直不斷有鄉村歌手以歌曲來表達他對國愛的熱愛以及關心。最先發聲的應該是Aaron Tippin讚頌本土的Where The Stars Stripes and The Eagle Fly，再來便是Alan Jackson感動成千上萬美國聽眾的Where Were You ，期間也不乏像Joe Diffie一樣進錄音室唱了首國歌放在官網讓民眾下載聆聽。粗略分類的話，大概可分為『熱血』和『感人』兩大走向，前者像是上述的Aaron Tippin、Darryl Worley的Have You Forgotten、Toby Keith的Courtesy of the Red White and Blue/American Soldier、Montgomery Gentry的My Town、Clint Black的 Iraq-N-Roll..等，很容易就激發聽眾的腎上腺素，凝聚向心力；後者當然便是以打動人心為主，有Alan Jackson、Lonestar的I'm Already There、以及JMM最新推出的 Letters From Home..等等。四年前，JMM和Alison Krauss、Dan Tyminski合作了一首感人的作品：The Little Girl，以關懷家庭為出發點，歌詞敘述一名小女孩因為父親酗酒、母親吸毒，讓她得不到像其他家小孩般的正常教育與親情，直到某一天父母親吵架，父親殺了母親，接著自殺後，她才被安排到新的家庭過著與其他小孩一般的生活。這首歌表達了他對社會現象的關心順便希望能藉由歌曲的無遠弗屆讓各個角落的家庭重視這個問題。 LFH 則以搭著美國近期熱門的戰爭為背景，把家人和士兵間的信件做為歌詞的主體，編曲則是依循JMM慣有的傳統鄉村風格，以空心吉它為主軸，再用Mandolin、Steel、 Banjo....等樂器陪襯；最重要當然還是JMM動人的嗓音，這類的歌曲從他的口中唱出更是入味三分。面對戰爭時的殘酷，一通家人的電話或是一張家裡寄來的信便是激勵士兵最有用的助力，JMM 希望藉由這首歌曲溫暖那些那些出國戰爭的士兵以及他們家人、朋友的心。第一段是媽媽的信，就像常見的媽媽經一般，不忘提家中的環境與其他親人的現況；第二段女朋友的信則是充滿甜蜜的愛意；最後一段父親的信，簡短的詞句卻能最直接感動異鄉的孩子。 Letters From Home 家書 My Dear Son, it is almost June, 親愛的兒子，快六月了 I hope this letter catches up to you, and finds you well. 希望信能及時送到你手裡，知道你平安無事 Its been dry but they're calling for rain, 最近天氣乾燥得讓人想祈求老天爺快點下雨 And everything's the same ol' same in Johnsonville. 老家跟往常一樣變化不大 Your stubborn 'ol Daddy ain't said too much, 你那固執的老爸還是一樣話不多 But I'm sure you know he sends his love, 不過我肯定你了解他的心意 And she goes on, 而你女朋友有來過了 In a letter from home. 家中寫的信 I hold it up and show my buddies, 我高舉著信給弟兄們看 Like we ain't scared and our boots ain't muddy, 就好像我們毫不害怕、沒上過戰場一樣大家都笑了 and they all laugh, Like there's something funny bout' the way I talk, When I say: "Mama sends her best y'all." 大家都笑了，因為當我說："各位，老媽送給我滿滿的祝福"，講話的樣子好像很逗趣 I fold it up an' put it in my shirt, 我把信折起來放入口袋 Pick up my gun an' get back to work. 拿起槍回到工作崗位 An' it keeps me driving me on, Waiting on letters from home. 等待著家書是我最大的動力 My Dearest Love, its almost dawn. 我的至愛，天快亮了 I've been lying here all night long wondering where you might be. 我整夜都想著現在你在哪裡 I saw your Mama and I showed her the ring. 我已經見過你媽媽，她也看過了戒指 Man on the television said something so I couldn't sleep. 電視上的訪問讓我睡不著覺 But I'll be all right, I'm just missing you. 不過我沒事的，只是思念你而已 An' this is me kissing you: 這是我給你的吻 XX's and OO's, 親親抱抱 In a letter from home. 家中寫的信 I hold it up and show my buddies, 我高舉著信給弟兄們看 Like we ain't scared and our boots ain't muddy, 就好像我們毫不害怕、沒上過戰場一樣 and they all laugh, 'Cause she calls me "Honey" 大家都笑了，因為她叫我"甜心" but they take it hard, 'Cause I don't read the good parts 每個人都很猴急，因為我沒唸出精彩的地方 I fold it up an' put it in my shirt, 我把信折起來放入口袋 Pick up my gun an' get back to work. 拿起槍回到工作崗位 An' it keeps me driving me on, Waiting on letters from home. 等待著家書是我最大的動力 Dear Son, I know I ain't written, 親愛的兒子，我不太愛寫信 But sittin' here tonight, alone in the kitchen, it occurs to me, 不過晚上一個人坐在廚房裡，讓我有這個衝動 I might not have said, so I'll say it now: 以前我大概沒提過，所以現在要跟你說 Son, you make me proud. 孩子，你是我的驕傲 I hold it up and show my buddies, 我高舉著信給弟兄們看 Like we ain't scared and our boots ain't muddy, 就好像我們毫不害怕、沒上過戰場一樣 but no one laughs, 'Cause there ain't nothing funny when a soldier cries. 不過沒有半點笑聲，因為看到士兵哭一點也不有趣 An' I just wipe me eyes. 我擦去眼淚 I fold it up an' put it in my shirt, 把信折起來放入口袋 Pick up my gun an' get back to work. 拿起槍回到工作崗位 An' it keeps me driving me on, Waiting on letters from home. 等待著家書是我最大的動力 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.230.181.44
