The Notorious B.I.G. , 也有人叫他Biggie Smalls, 五年三張專輯, 他至今仍然是許多饒舌樂迷的Top 5 MC. 來自Brooklyn, New York, 1994年, 年輕的 Biggie在Bad Boy發行了他的首張專輯, Ready To Die, 在當時西岸幫派饒舌盛行的時代, Biggie用這張專輯把所有人的注意力再次帶回New York. Everytime I turn around a nigga getting took out "Things Done Changed" Biggie口中的neighborhood從友善的氣氛迅速被帶到殺戮街頭. 賭博, 槍枝, 毒品不斷出現在押韻裡, 22歲的Biggie口吻聽起來就像已經在犯罪環境中生活許久的OG. Man, nigga come through, I'm taking high school ring, too Bitched get strangled for they earings and bangles and when I rock her and drop her I'm taking her door knockers and if she is resistant "baka! baka! baka!" so go get your man bitch he can get robbed, too Tell him Biggie took it, what the fuck he gonna do? Biggie在"Gimme The Loot"裡一人分飾兩角, 他稍微提高了音調模仿跟他一起搶劫的夥伴, 威脅跟恐嚇的押韻絕對是Biggie的強項, 受害者從男人到女人, 大人到小孩, 在Biggie的Hardcore押韻裡沒人可以倖存. 我想這得感謝Kool G Rap的影響, 這首歌幾乎是Train Robbery的復刻版, 只是用更fresh的押韻跟flow組成. "Damn! niggas wanna stick me for my paper" 在被通知有人要來偷襲後, Biggie 緩緩的敘述他要如何反擊的細節, 並在歌曲最後順利擊殺兩名殺手, 由Easy Mo Bee 製作, "Warning"這首歌Biggie展現驚人的storytelling技巧, 如果沒有比Slick Rick還好也絕對是最接近的. Verse 2, coming with that Old E Brew Meth-Tical, putting niggas back in ICU I'm lifted troop, you can bring your wack ass crew I got connections, I'll get that ass stuck like glue 身為唯一的跨刀歌手, Method Man在"The What"裡幫專輯帶了點武當的功夫押韻, 有Meth認可的Ready To Die, 就算是地下樂迷也無法挑剔了. We used to fuss when the landlord dissed us No heat, wonder why Christmas missed us Birthday was the worst day Now we sip champagne when we thirstay "Juicy"曾經是我這張專輯最愛的歌, 畢竟初學的時候英文不大行沒R&B副歌的根本聽不下去, 這首大概算是整張專輯唯一一首比較正面積極的歌, 從街頭無名小卒到饒舌巨星, 他寫了這首歌給那些曾經瞧不起他的人以及其他跟他以前一樣想在街頭生存的年輕人. 在"Me & My Bitch"之前的歌曲, Biggie用歌詞把自己刻畫為一名殘酷無情的殺手, 毒犯, 直到這首歌他才流露出一些感情 It didn't take long before the tear start I saw my bitch dead with gunshot to the heart And I know it was meant for me I guess the niggas felt they had to kill the closest one to me And when I find em your life is to an end They killed my best friend.....me and my bitch Biggie描述他和一個女孩的邂逅, 女孩跟他一樣享受街頭生活, 他們一起搶劫殺人, 故事最後女孩被警察射殺, 歌曲以一段訪問節錄結束, 似乎暗指這事件才是離開街頭的原因. Buck shots out the sun roof of Lexus Coupes Leave no witnesses, what you think this is Aint no amateurs here, I damage and tear MC's fear me, they too near not to hear me DJ Premier操刀製作的"Unbelievable" 就如同所有饒舌歌手, Biggie也熱愛吹捧自己, 吹噓他的槍跟MC技巧, 甚至副歌直接sample自己這張專輯的歌, 但是別人又能拿他怎樣, call him evil or unbelievable. All my life I've been considered as the worst Lying to my mother, even stealing out her purse Crime after crime, from drugs to extortion I know my mother wished she got a fucking abortion "Suicidal Thoughts"給Ready To Die一個完美的結尾, Lord Finesse的beat營造了一股詭異多疑的氣氛環繞著Biggie自殺傾向的押韻, 回想自己的犯罪生活, 讓母親失望以及他未出生小孩,無法承擔壓力, 最後結束在一生槍響以及留在電話另一端呼喊的Puff. 相信大部分的人在看這篇文章前就已經很熟Biggie了吧, 只是有點好奇有誰跟我一樣現在還在聽Ready To Die, 甚至Life After Death, 這些以前一點的音樂尤其是看到Nujabes的R.I.P.推文比Guru還多真的讓我有點驚訝. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 71.255.193.237
