VARO五月巡迴澳大利亞！ VARO "HARDCORE BEACH IN A CLOD DOWNUNDER WINTER" AUSTRALIA EAST-CAOST TOUR 2005 MAY 4-20 (VIC & NSW) _______________________________________________________________ VARO are- WanTing: Guitar Lydia: Keyboard, Bass, Vocal _______________________________________________________________ OZ TOUR INFO ● SHOWS ● SHOWS ● SHOWS _________________________________________________________________ 由婉婷和Lydia領軍的電子音樂現場樂團VARO，將在下週進行緊湊，幾乎行程全滿的兩週澳大利亞巡迴，這兩週將會帶VARO巡迴整個澳大利亞EAST CAOST，原本這次澳洲的巡迴是要預先安排幫美國slow- core的重量級樂團LOW，當澳大利亞整個東岸巡迴的開場樂團(包括原本已經喬定在澳洲後的台北演出)，而因為臨時因為LOW的BASS手 ZAK老婆懷孕，而取消了整個FAE EAST的巡迴，現在VARO將在五月在澳洲進行幾場自己HEADLINE演出，還有幾場為曾在美國時代雜誌奪下『全美最佳樂團』的知名獨立女子樂團，Sleater-Kinney前鼓手主導的synth pop 本地大團Ninetynine、澳洲資深獨立樂團Base -ball等在當地已經小有名氣的票房樂團做開場演出，五月中後可能還會有為知名紐約民謠歌手Cat Power在Nick Cave & Bad Seeds 開場的side show，做幾場在雪梨和墨爾本真正大型演出，這兩週的Australia east coast tour也會帶VARO的新唱片Hardcore Be- ach上遍幾間包括PBS, Triple R和3CW的比較大的獨立音樂電台做訪問和現場電台的演出。目前確定的七場行程將會是VARO第一次帶著她們的作品和澳大利亞獨立樂迷見面，也會是第一支台灣樂團真正巡迴澳大利亞(當然除了雲門舞集不算外啦)。 __________________________________________________________________ VARO ON THE WIRE ● PRESS ● PRESS ● PRESS _________________________________________________________________ 在今年三月VARO成為台灣第一個被英國權威前衛和搖滾雜誌The Wire選入 "essential listening"- The Wire Chart排行榜的音樂作品，在五月時更正式的被The Wire唱片樂評專欄寫了一篇評價還蠻亂優的唱片review，而假如認識婉婷的人都知道，其實老實到不行的她，其實小聰明都放到了她的音樂中，除了真實之外，那每一點小轉折中，你可以見到的是它作品中的自然、貼切感的可愛、有時塞的滿滿有小聰明的創意。就像是台灣可能在五年或者是十年內，你可能還是在電台聽不到VARO的歌，但是完全並不知道她從那來的德國佬電台、或是澳洲人就會不知道為什麼的想要放她的歌，就像是我第一次聽到她的個人作品是在小樹的電台上，那是小聰明，絕對是小聰明，更是聽得到的小聰明，但是在真正認識婉婷和她的團員後，原來她們的小聰明全部都放在音樂上了，根本沒有坊間說來說去改變什麼、改變什麼滿腔熱血，想破頭找主題發揮的刻意，就是只有『作』還有『真』，『點』對『點』的把生活放進去。當你已經受夠拿著口號當飯吃的日子後，其實『真』才是最難找而且最會容易被遺忘的，就像是Chan Marshall說的，愛死她了！根本沒有為什麼就是愛死她了！ VARO的首張專輯HARDCORE BEACH已經在04年十二月在全台發行。 VARO's debut album is out now through 7 Inch Vinyl Records _______________________________________________________________ TOUR DATES _______________________________________________________________ 以下是目前VARO在Australia East Coast Tour已經confirmed的 dates，They are still more confirmed dates will be annou- nced very shortly! _______________________________________________________________ VARO "HARDCORE BEACH IN A CLOD DOWNUNDER WINTER" AUSTRALIA EAST-CAOST TOUR 2005 _______________________________________________________________ VICTORIA, AUSTRAIA 6th of May (Thursday): Melbourne - 161 club 7th of May (Friday): Melbourne - Rob Roy 8th of May (Saturday): Melbourne - Pony Bar 9th of May (Sunday): Melbourne - The Vic Hotel NEW SOUTH WAILS, AUSTRALIA 12th of May (Thursday): Sydeny - TBA 13th of May (Friday): Sydeny - TBA 14th of May (Saturday): Sydeny - TBA _______________________________________________________________ CAT POWER (WITH BAND) MAY 2005 EAST-CAOST TOUR _______________________________________________________________ 10th (Tuesday):Brisbane - Convention Centre with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds 12th (Thursday):Bulli - Heritage Hotel (Headline) 14th (Saturday):Sydeny - Newtown (Headline) 15th (Sunday):Sydeny -Luna Park Big Top with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds 16th (Monday):Sydeny -Luna Park Big Top with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds 17th (Tuesday):Melbourne - Northcote Social Club (headline) 19th (Thursday): Hepburn Springs - Palais (headline) 20th (Friday): Melbourne - Festival Hall with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds _______________________________________________________________ VARO will tour Australia for the very first time. _______________________________________________________________ VARO is an electronic music group with a cinematic feel from Taiwan. The name comes from the female Spanish painter Remedios Varo. Their music sounds like it is racing with their namesake's surreal images. This race becomes a journal of psychedelic, charming, and sensitive moments. The founding member of VARO - Wan Ting, was an also a foun- ding member and the guitarist of Ladybug, Taiwan's pioneer seminal underground rock band. The band has inspired and influenced much of the independent music scene in Taiwan. They were the first Taiwanese rock band to tour the USA, completing two tours between 1997 and 1998. These tours featured performances at the North By Northwest F- estival in Portland and the CMJ music festival New York City. Ladyb- ug released two albums, Ladybug in 1997 and Let the Spaceman Dance in 1998. Their debut album Ladybug was also released by Australia l- abel "Shock" in States and Australia in 1998 and became first ever Taiwanese artist got on CMJ music chart in the US. Wan Ting moved to Chicago in 2000, studying sound engineering. She f- ormed a new band, Orange Space, and released a self-titled EP in 2001 . in 2002. She returned to Taiwan in 2003, leaving Ladybug, starting up Tin Pan Alley and VARO. From year 1996 founding Ladybug to 2003 VARO, Wan Ting has been played shows with indie heroes such as Cat Power, Dirty 3, Fourtet, Superchunk, Yo La Tengo, Damon and Naomi, June of 44, Seam, Versus in both Taiwan and States. VARO seems to suffering from a collective brian wrong that is gloriou- sly, euphorically right. You can catch VARO performing live Thursday 5th at 161 club in CDB, Friday 6th at Rob Roy in Brunswick, Saturday at Pony Bar city, Sunday 8th at The Vic Hotel in Collingwood also dat- es with local hero Baseball in Sydney.
