ALPHA the impossible thrill (Melankolik, 2001) — I've said, more than once, that come from heaven was the best CD of the '90s. Finally, the follow-up is out, so I feel obligated to share my thoughts. First, what is this emaciated cat on the cover? Don't they realize that my kitty is much more deserving of CD art, especially when the music is so warm and fluffy? See for yourself! the impossible thrill is more song-focused, lacking the segues that made come from heaven so great. However, some songs do warrant standing alone, such as the dynamic "dim," with impassioned vocals from Martin Barnard. Helen White takes most of the other good tracks, like "south" and "fort." These could be sewn seamlessly into come from heaven, and the only clunkers come when a few collaborations with Wendy Stubbs, "eon" and "al station," come off as just a little too sweet. Apparently Madonna is into Alpha, so in a few years every pop producer will be trying to cop their sound. Get it now, before it's stale. http://www.lifelikerecords.com/opinions.html -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.csie.ntu.edu.tw) ◆ From: walkabouts.m7.ntu.edu.tw
