1971年春天，
John的第四張專輯「Poems, Prayers and Promises」出版，
「Take Me Home, Country Roads」的單曲也同時推出。
四月，這首歌進入了排行榜，
但是進榜後移動的速度卻極為緩慢。
過了幾個星期之後，
RCA打電話給John，
準備放棄這首單 曲。
John立刻大聲反對，
並要求公司繼續打歌。
RCA抱著姑且一試的心態答應了。
到了八月中旬，
「John Denver」終於成為一個響亮的名字，
因為這首「Take Me Home, Country Roads」儘管最後並沒有拿到冠軍，
卻贏得了百萬金唱片，
成為1971年總排行第八名。
