Jazz performer/composer Alice Coltrane has died at the age of 69.
The wife of saxophone legend John Coltrane passed away on Friday
January 12 from respiratory failure at the West Hills Hospital
and Medical Center, Los Angeles. Alice – a critically acclaimed
pianist, organist and harpist in her own right, noted for her
"astral" compositions – managed the estate and archive of her
late husband, who died in 1967 of liver failure. After his death,
Alice converted to Hinduism and helped found the Vedantic
Center, a spiritual commune in California. Her last recording was
2004's Translinear Light.
