It wouldn't be a new season of ER without new medical types running around. So
expect a female nurse manager (3rd Rock From the Sun's Kristen Johnston) and a
young male go-getter brought in to run Dr. Carter's Joshua Center. ''He's the
type of guy you look at and say, 'Wow, he's so brilliant,I just want to punch
him in the teeth,''' says exec producer David Zabel of the yet-to-be-cast role.
Speaking of Carter (Noah Wyle), he'll appear in the second half of this season,
while John Leguizamo is joining the ER for a dozen episodes. Season 12 will also
bring stories about genetic mutations, a plane crash, and — shield your eyes,
Tom Cruise! — postpartum depression.
