Bill W.是Bill Wilson的簡稱,
他是Alcoholics Anonymous(一個幫人戒除不良惡習的組織)的創辦人,
Mike Portnoy早年曾有酗酒的習慣,
後來照著Bill W.的"12步驟戒除法"才戒除此一惡習.
關於Mike對於他酗酒經驗的描述,可以最先從Awake中的"The Mirror"看到,
後來他又接連寫了"The Glass Prison","This Dying Soul"跟"The Root of All Evil".
仔細看後三首的歌詞,可以看到Mike把他們分成I,II,III...等部份,
The Glass Prison是1-3,This Dying Soul是4-5,The Root of All Evil是6-7,
有人說這就是Mike描寫經歷12步驟的自身經驗,
表示Mike還有5步要寫,我們就拭目以待吧!
