Coldplay's 'Mylo Xyloto' Headed For Top of Billboard 200
by Keith Caulfield, L.A. | ?? 26, 2011 9:32 EDT
Next week, watch for Coldplay's "Mylo Xyloto" album to easily debut at No. 1
on the Billboard 200 chart, as industry sources suggest the set will sell at
least 440,000-450,000 by week's end on Oct. 30.
The British band's fifth studio set -- released on Monday, Oct. 24 -- will
mark its third No. 1 album, following 2005's "X&Y" and 2008's "Viva La Vida
Or Death and All His Friends." The latter started with 721,000 sold in its
first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. "X&Y" launched with 737,000.
If "Mylo" moves more than 440,000, it will be the largest sales week for a
rock album since U2's "No Line On the Horizon" debuted at No. 1 with 484,000
on the chart dated March 21, 2009. Further, "Mylo" could post the
third-largest sales frame of 2011, after Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" debut
(1.1 million) and Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV" start (964,000).
Coldplay is just one of a bevy of superstar acts that are looking to make a
splashy bow on the Billboard 200 next week.
Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger" is on course to debut at No. 2 with maybe 150,000
while Michael Buble's "Christmas" could start at No. 3 with over 110,000.
"Stronger" will mark Clarkson's fifth top three album (her entire output) and
is the follow-up to the No. 1 set "All I Ever Wanted" in 2009. It entered the
tally with 255,000 and was led by the No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 single "My Life
Would Suck Without You." Her new album's lead track, "Mr. Know It All,"
climbs 24-19 on the Hot 100 this week.
Buble's "Christmas" should earn the pop singer his fifth top 10 set and his
second holiday entry on the tally. His first seasonal effort, the EP "Let It
Snow," peaked at No. 32 in 2009 and has sold 1 million.
Country king Toby Keith should grab his 12th top 10 with "Clancy's Tavern"
aiming to debut with around 65,000 sold. His last release "Bullets in the
Gun," fired at No. 1 in 2010 with 71,000.
Elsewhere on the Billboard 200, look for veteran singer/songwriter Tom Waits
to claim his highest charting album ever, as "Bad As Me" could arrive in the
top 20. His chart high thus far came with 2004's "Real Gone," which debuted
and peaked at No. 24.
DJ/producer Kaskade could also make some major Billboard 200 noise as his
"Fire & Ice" may give the artist his first top 20 set. The effort, which
includes guests Skylar Gray and Skrillex, would easily trump his previous
chart peak: No. 104 with "Dynasty" in 2010.
