Jay-Z To Launch New Label
Rapper/Def Jam President Jay-Z is planning to add to the Roc-A-Fella record
label, with a new label focusing on World Music, reports the New York Post.
Titled Roc La Familia, it will fall under Def Jam and the Universal Music
umbrella. "Everybody talks about the world getting smaller, well we are doing
something about it," the J-Hova told the Post. "Roc La Familia will leverage
the extensive resources of Def Jam to introduce fans to cultures that they
would not normally be exposed to."
A&R consultant Juan Perez has been tapped to head Roc La Familia. The label's
first artist is Rapper Aztek Escobar, who will release his first album
Columbian Necktie. Roc La Familia plans to release a variety of musical
styles, including Reggae and the growing genre of Reggaeton.
Jay-Z (aka Shawn Carter) was named President of Def Jam last year, after UMG
bought out all of Roc-A-Fella.
